Sonatas and Sonnets - a piano recital
March 28th, 2016
On Friday, March 28th, I presented a piano recital at the Boulder Piano Gallery titled, "Sonatas and Sonnets." The performance concept was to incorporate some well known (and not so well known) piano literature with poetry to enhance the experience of both. To this end, Schubert's Bb sonata is paired with Shakespear's Sonnet #146, Scriabin's Sonata no.7 with Yeats' The Second Coming, and Chopin's fourth Ballade with the Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock. Also included was a duet performance with Boulder pianist Rebecca Martin.
Judging Scenario
March 5th, 2016
Another day of judging for the Federated Music Clubs. This year was a treat as I was able to hear some of the best of the best of the advanced level pianists from around Boulder county. Also a great time to reconnect with colleagues in the piano realm. It is always amazing to me how many piano students turn out for this event!
Schubert Recording released
August 1st, 2015
My recording of the Schubert Bb Sonata has been released and is available in both CD format and digital download. It is, of course, on Amazon and other on-line distributors. It has already some great reviews (I'll try to get them posted here soon) and some air play. So glad this recording project is behind me.
San Antonio Convention
February 11-14th, 2015
Just got back from a "Texas Music Educators" convention in San Antonio, and I can confirm that everything is bigger in Texas. I was there primarily to network and meet people; little did I suspect that there would be over 26,000 registered attendees! People lined up hours in advanced to hear high school and college performing groups, and the exhibition halls equaled the size of two or more football fields.
Kudos to those Texan teachers for pulling off such an event! However, for me, there is a limit to how much one can digest is a few days, and that has left me a bit bloated.

Dusek to Present at B.A.M.T.A. Meeting
January 20th, 2015--Dusek to talk to Boulder area music teachers on adjudication issues
On January 20th Robert Dusek will present a lecture/ forum titled, "Seeing Students through the Eyes of a Judge." The adjudication experience is much different than the private lesson for many music students, and Dr. Dusek will lead the Boulder group through such topics as "listening with your eyes," "the art of the first impression," "winning repertoire," and other material relevant to making a great impression in competition scenarios. The presentation will be held at Harvest Baptist Church in Boulder, CO and is free and open to the public.

Robert Dusek-Brian Pezzone ‘Runes. A Piano Fantasy’
(Ravello 2013)
Or for those without Google Translator...
This intriguing new proposal of Ravello, starring the duo Robert Dusek - Brian Pezzone , the first as a composer , the second performer ( piano ) . A couple certainly well-matched , as suggested by the photos in the booklet , which portrays them as leaving for a trip , his eyes brimming with confidence and facing forward , and with country- casual clothes that indicate how the two are ready to ' adventure. And so must the audience , that is, free of being carried away by this fantasies ( even in the technical sense of the term) dall'incedere quasi- improvisational , alternating chord sequences which act as a long preludes or postludi episodes more excited , in which contrapuntal activity grows to form lumps of matter from which the pianist struggles with skill. Bravo is also Pezzone , to go along with the dramatic structure designed by close friend Dusek , which while not favoring harmonic regions of the most comforting , draws us into his world of night and dream .
